MemberDear all,
here is a list of next steps – please add if I have left out anything:
1. Working group leaders to send Shy an itemized budget within a week. (Bettina to follow up with Claire and Deepta, and Alison and Ranjita); Jo and Leslie to get back to Shy about whether they will use the funds for the Knowledge and Democracy group.
2. Vera and Laura to begin leading the application for the Voices grant – to be submitted in 6 months.
3. Laurence to lead the Bellagio application for 2014 or 2015? Vera suggested 2015, Laurence suggested 2014.
4. Becky to help finalise the date for the 2014 workshop.
5. A decision needs to be made about where the 2014 workshop will be held – India or South Africa?
Please add to this list in the course of today…there might be bigger decisions I have left out.
Thanks,
Bettina.

MemberHi all, thanks Shy for clarifying the budget again.
It looks as if the next steps are as follows:
Each of the four groups above needs to submit a detailed itemized budget (accrodign to the criteria you have outlined) of $4600 to you.
An outstanding issue at this stage is whether the Knowledge and Democracy group (Leslie and JO) and the claim-making group are actually going to propose a new set of activities.
I will check in with Deepta and Claire. Leslie and Jo, can you let us know if the Knowledge and democracy group will be planning a new round of activity?
Bettina.

MemberHi all,
thank you Becky and Leslie for a great job on the website.
Laurence and I will send the mediation material asap.
It would be great to set up a “publications” section….links to material published by CORD members.
Bettina.

MemberDear all,
on the Bellagio grant: I agree with Laurence that we should pursue a CORD meeting at Bellagio. Some of the working groups are putting in new grant proposals (to IDRC, Guggenheim, etc.) and it looks as if there is a new round of exciting work emerging. So far our collaboration has acted as an incubator for new collaborative projects and I think we are on to something very exciting with CORD. The meeting could focus on each working group’s program, and on the practices of the collaboration as a whole.
On the Make all voices count grant: November 8 is the day after tomorrow and we might have left it too late. Let’s aim at the next round in six months, as Laura suggested. I read Laura’s and Vera’s previous email and liked the research framework. Sorry, Laura, I could not open the link to the proposal above.

MemberHi all,
apologies for replying late to this thread…I’d prefer April for the workshop (will also post this on the doodle poll). It would be great if we could hold it in South Africa, but Delhi would be great too, if Shy has the energy to organize another workshop!
The list of people heading the working groups:
1. Mediation: Laurence and Bettina
2. Violence and Mapping: Shy, Andrew, Laurence, Jo
3. Political and Economic Citizenship: Alison and Ranjita
4. Knowledge and Democracy: Leslie and Jo
5. Marginality and Public Policy: Vera, Laura, Paul (?)
6. Claim-making,etc: Deepta, Claire, Alex (?)
Not sure if I have all of this right.

MemberHi all,
it’s been a very busy new year. Our UTSC Centre for Critical Development Studies is growing – I’ve been teaching three new courses, running a new seminar series on the MDGs (a critical appraisal of) and I am starting a new project on immigrant Somali women and their informal economic livelihoods in Toronto early next year. Next week I am participating in an IDRC event at the COADY Institute on “research excellence” in development research.
The mediation group has focused on completing the book. Almost all chapters are almost ready to go, and we are awaiting the actual contract from Palgrave Macmillan. The review of the proposal was extremely positive. We are planning to submit the manuscript to Palgrave in January 2014.
Thanks!
Bettina.
