thank bettina for pulling the main points out
re point 3. I agree with vera – i’ll lead bellagio for 2015 and we can discuss the proposal at the 2014 meeting
re point 5. I think it makes sense to host in India for logistical reasons, especially around financial tranfers from what i gathered from the discussion this week, but if this is not an obstacle then we can host.lastly, a special thank to Becky for making this happen every day, and in such a positive way. thanks!

November 6, 2013 at 05:54 #684Laurence PiperParticipantHi Again,
In terms of the Bellagio grant application, I know very little apart from Shylashri’s previous email about Rob Garris (Rockefeller Foundation, Bellagio Centre). Apparently Cord sounds like the kind of organisation that the Bellagio Centre would like to host, but we need to submit a proposal a year in advance.
FYI, the Bellagio Centre is a lovely estate in Italy that is perfect for a retreat type of meeting. see http://www.rockefellerfoundation.org/bellagio-center. If our application is successful they will cover the costs of accommodation and food, and perhaps some airfares from LDCs.
I think we need to reflect on whether this kind of meeting would fit into the larger Cord programme and how we would make use of it to the best end. Personally I think it crucial to meet twice a year to keep our collaboration alive and so would motivate for a gathering of all of us in late 2014. Perhaps others could comment on whether we need to meet, and what we could meet about. ie should it be a focused session of one of our groups, a more general gathering, or a combination of both… all suggestions are welcome
If we do find some agreement the ‘when’ and ‘what’ questions, I propose we have a small team engage Rob and draw up a proposal based on our plans and Bellagios requirements that is consulted with the group and then submitted.
Let’s hear what people think!

Thank god for Shylashri! You are keeping us on track.
In terms of timing for the workshop March/April is fine with me. I presume we must do this in India given that CPR is a TT. If so, can I suggest Hyderabad? If not, perhaps it’s time for a trip to South Africa to watch the elections bring out the worst in us. (Not just Bangladesh Simeen!)
At the risk of seeming ignorant, is there a list of teams and leaders – I need reminding of who is on which team and their programmes of action – I think mediation is currently burnt out, but I do recall Claire and Deepta talking a politics of legitimacy-claiming they might want to pursue.. Bettina… is your memory working?

lpNovember 4, 2013 at 05:25 #664Laurence PiperParticipantHello Cordizens,
Most of my Cord activities have centered on the Mediation book which is nearing as completion – expect emails to authors for final revisions shortly. Bettina and I have also submitted a journal article informed by the introduction of the Mediation book that is under consideration at the moment. I also assisted with the violence grant and am looking forward to group meeting in Cape Town next year – maybe Monkey Valley again (i’m actually writing from there for another event!).
Life after the Mediation book is a panoply of opportunities yet to be conceived (ie I haven’t thought about it much). One thing we ARE doing is looking to strengthen ties between UWC and the CCDS (with Paul, Leslie and Bettina) going forward which may help facilitate more cord activities. I visited Toronto earlier this year and we explored some possibilities. We will keep you all in the loop about that.
Otherwise, 2014 is an open vista for cord-relevant work, so looking forward to new initiatives and ideas.
best
