MemberHi Becky and all!
First of all, great job on the website. It´s really nice, clean and most important: user-friendly.
Second, I think having a blog its a great idea and I am happy to contribute to this iniative, if you need any help.
On the website, just a quick note on CEBRAP’s hyperlink on the bottom; the full name in Portuguese has a typo. Becky, could you please correct to : Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento.
Thanks!

MemberFrom our side, on the “Make all Voices Count” grant (http://www.makingallvoicescount.org/).
I had some initial positive responses last week from many of you, but we still would have to discuss it in more details.
As Becky recalled, this first round deadline is Nov. 8th. Which I am starting to consider too short. Again, last week I was told that the Programme will run for 4 years and that they will be launching calls every six months, focusing each time in a set of countries. This first round gathers: Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. They also told me the focus is not exclusive to those countries, but any compaartive approach should include those “target” countries. From our current CORD members, I suppose we only have people working in SA, right?
To have something to start off, I have sent you a initial draft proposal. Also enclosed here: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=gmail&attid=0.1.1&thid=1420ffea6c395c1d&mt=application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document&authuser=1&url=https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/?ui%3D2%26ik%3D0c3ac2dbf1%26view%3Datt%26th%3D1420ffea6c395c1d%26attid%3D0.1.1%26disp%3Dsafe%26zw&sig=AHIEtbSK2gbyltLrEhhHeau40VjipOb2ig
To get our discussion going, I would like to propose two questions:
1- How do you feel about the proposed research framework? Any reaction is welcome.
2 – Whether we should porsue this first round on Nov.8, possibly having to adapt the framework to use South Africa as the main object. Conversely, we could also try to engage with IDS people to understand what are the future countries on their list.
Well, those are only initial thoughts. Please feel free to react to those questions or to bring new ones.
Regarding the Bellagio grant, I agree with Laurence that meeting face to face in key to keep the network alive, so I suppose any grant in this sense should be porsued.
Looking forward to hearing your comments.

MemberHi CORD colleagues.
On next year´s workshop: just a quick reminder, there is the BRICS Summit in Brazil around the 15th March, I would be particularly busy this time (and I suppose Vera, Alex and others too). Once said that, I would really prefer the workshop to be held any time after that (last week of March) or in April.
I suppose Vera can talk more about the plans/calendar for the public policies/marginality group.
Best,
Laura

MemberDear all,
Happy to reconnect.
From my side, at Cebrap I have been working on two main projects: first, the Brazil country study for the IDS Rising Powers in International Development. We are now finalizing our report and earlier this year we have published one policy brief on the topic. Second, Vera and myself we have been involved with the Independent Review Mechanism of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), and we have just published the first version of our report on Brazil. As I have mentioned to you, last week, I was in London presenting its main findings at the OGP Annual Summit.
Besides that, with my Conectas Human Rights hat, I have been working a lot on Brazilian foreign policy (notably on the notion of “emerging power”), with special attention to Brazilian policies in/to IBSA and BRICS.
Additionally, I am happy to say I have co-authored one little article on “Development and Human Rights” (see: http://www.surjournal.org/eng/conteudos/pdf/17/01.pdf) and have wrote another piece on the recent protests in Brazil.
I admitt it was a really busy year.
However, I have to say that I have miss CORD activities and I am really looking forward to re-engage.
Warmly,
Laura
