    Hello!
It’s nearly one year since our delhi meeting. For me a lot of time was spent on a family crisis: my husband had to undergo a second (and very very traumatic) heart surgery in early may. But thankfully, I think we are over the worst.

In the meantime he and I have collaborated on a book chapter on South Asian development regimes, and contribute a chapter titled “Bangladesh development surprise”, and used some of our findings on citizenship building from the Bangladesh DRC work.

This past year I have started work on “unpaid care” collecting time use data in north bengal and hopefully analysing national time use data collected by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Also began secondary analysis of labour force statistics exploring female labour supply.

AT BDI we have begun to develop a masters on gender culture and development. I am responsible for several courses, particularly gender and development, gender and citizenship, and possibly on globalization.

Currently, bangladesh is in the run up to elections in january, and there is a stalemate between the two major political parties, citizens are caught in between and paying heavy costs. Is this the cost of democracy???

I look forward to catching up!

    take care and stay safe,
    simeen
